Meow Wolf is an art production company creating and operating immersive, interactive multimedia experiences that transport audiences of all ages to fantastical realms of storytelling.

Founded in 2008 by a small group of artists, writers, musicians, and makers looking to create an egalitarian space for artistic expression, Meow Wolf’s first exhibits were created in warehouses on shoestring budgets. Since then Meow Wolf has created 25 exhibitions throughout the United States working with with hundreds of artists.

Job Description

The Senior Vice President of Operations is a strategic role that will develop and set strategies for both the short-term and long-term success of Meow Wolf’s exhibit operations. This person will lead the local LLC General Managers to execute and implement these strategic plans and is ultimately responsible for the operational integrity of all Meow Wolf visitor locations, working through the Meow Wolf’s General Managers.

Job Requirements


  • Bachelors or Graduate degree in business or related field preferred
  • Education and experience demonstrating a thorough knowledge of business administration, people management, retail, hospitality, or other exhibit management, and finance

Your experience with overseeing operations, establishing department goals and mentoring staff are but a few of the keys to your success as the Senior VP of Operations. To be successful, you will also need proven experience including:

  • Prior experience as a VP of Operations/Regional Director of Operations or in a role overseeing multiple sites in either a retail, museum, hospitality, themed park, or similar environment
  • Proven track record of assessing and growing a strong leadership team
  • Innate leadership presence to provide strategic direction and a hands-on approach
  • Understand all aspects of exhibit management, including building maintenance, labor laws, workers compensation laws, health and safety laws, etc.
  • Thorough understanding of exhibit operations and controls
  • Development of operating budgets
  • Ability to analyze financial reports
  • Recruiting, interviewing, and hiring qualified individuals for key resort positions

Computer skills including considerable experience with MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook

Job Responsibilities

Leadership and Development

  • Sets the tone and direction for the overall culture and leadership for all exhibit operations
  • Communicates the vision and strategic goals of exhibit operations
  • Seeks out and translates artistic and creative direction to exhibit management and operations employees
  • Holds the highest standards of customer service and visitor satisfaction
  • Hires, trains, and supervises all exhibit General Managers

In conjunction with the General Managers, the Senior VP of Operations:

  • Selects, recruits, and develops General Managers and all exhibit management team members
  • Enforces staffing guidelines and corporate policies
  • Maintains an open-door policy and open lines of communication with both the General Managers and location managers to ensure that they are kept abreast of any and all people issues to help the team keep on track, to asses potential risk, and to maintain an understanding of the work being done at the ground level
  • Responsible to represent the company with the highest level of personal and professional integrity and character
  • Ensures all resorts meet internal and industry standards of excellence
  • Ensures performance reviews, merit increases, and bonus payouts are within guidelines, are timely, and reflect Meow Wolf’s Pay for Performance philosophy
  • Ensures the highest level of customer service is maintained at each location
  • Maintains strong communication with Exhibit Operations as a whole

Financial & Budget Responsibilities

  • Establish metrics, and analyze data such as P&L reports, income statements, etc., to ensure exhibits are meeting financial and service goals and objectives
  • Oversee and drive the budget management process for Exhibit Operations
  • Responsible for ensuring that operations management is meeting or exceeding the target goals
  • Leads in the development of strategic goals and budget planning in the areas of labor management, maintenance costs, and overhead expenses
  • Works closely with the Finance Team to generate and constantly enhance visitor, retail, and food and beverage income and off-set bad debt and inventory spoilage
  • Implements and promotes enhancement programs for the highest and best utilization of the exhibits
  • Responsible to participate and coordinate the installation and of training of Point of Sale systems, and other operational tools designed to enhance productivity

Strategic & Goal Development

  • Responsible to recognize, anticipate, and strategically plan for industry changes, local market fluctuations, and general trends affecting each exhibit in the portfolio
  • Works with Meow Wolf Executive Team to develop and execute strategies to enhance visitor experience, increase income, and rationally manage expenses
  • Work with the Chief Operating Officer and the Vice President of Human Resources to establish policies, procedures, and job descriptions for all areas of operations and staff
  • Develops and makes recommendations to the Chief Operating Officer of policies, plans, and programs

Operational Excellence

  • Working with the Chief Financial Officer, provides information, analysis, and insights to Meow Wolf’s Board of Directors regarding the management of Meow Wolf visitor locations
  • Responsible to establish relationships with local government, law enforcement, and other local leaders to ensure mutual understanding and support
  • Makes recommendations and works with both the Operations team and the Vice President of Human Resources to create and implement policies and programs that will improve the company, the lives of the employees, and the profitability of the exhibits
  • Assists with the budget management process at each exhibit
  • Responsible for the overall budget performance at each exhibit

The Senior VP of Resort Operations may also:

  • Present ideas before groups of individuals, including board members, leadership teams, and their peers
  • Use oral and written communication skills with the ability to write speeches, agreements, regulations, and articles for publication
  • Respond to common inquiries and complaints from visitors, regulatory agencies, or members of the local business communities

Perform other duties as needed to ensure the smooth operation and leadership of all Meow Wolf’s visitor locations as required.
