Front Desk Lead

About this Position

Meow Wolf Santa Fe is hiring a full-time front desk lead. The front desk lead must be able to work 8-hour shifts and on occasion 9-10 hour shifts. Work is generally performed between 9am and 3am, with individual shifts ranging from 6-10 hours in length. Front desk leads must have a flexible schedule and be available to work days, evenings, and weekends.

Job Description

The front desk lead is responsible for the operations of the front desk, including management of the front desk staff on duty. The front desk lead reports to the shift manager, aka the Manager on Duty (MoD). The front desk lead is responsible for counting cash drawers and reconciling discrepancies as well as establishing an atmosphere of welcome in the Meow Wolf lobby.

  • Demonstrated good judgment in difficult and complicated situations
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain an appropriate, dispassionate demeanor in emergencies, difficult customer interactions, and interactions with personnel
  • Comfort with point of sale systems, including processing discounts, refunds, group sales, credit cards, cash, checks, and various forms of admissions passes
  • Experience responsibly handling cash
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as a positive representative of Meow Wolf

The ideal job candidate will also:

  • Be familiar with Meow Wolf operations
  • Be bilingual or multilingual
  • Have experience in a leadership role in a similar public-facing institution
  • Have experience training staff

Job Responsibilities

  • Running a register
  • Supporting cashiers (front desk staff) with questions or complicated transactions
  • Processing appropriate payment from groups and field trips
  • Working with the docent lead to orient groups and field trips to the rules and operations of the House of Eternal Return
  • Managing the cash drawers for the front desk and gift shop (get change for cashiers as needed, count drawers, etc)
  • Determining, in consultation with the MoD, how to best structure the admission line or lines
  • Supporting the gift shop for change, drawer management, and scheduling breaks to the gift shop staff   
  • Opening and closing cash drawers at the direction of the MoD
  • Counting cash drawers at the end of shifts
  • Investigating shortages and overages in cash drawers and making reports to MoDs and Meow Wolf management about discrepancies
  • Managing refunds and other financial issues requested by customers that require investigation (happen after the fact via phone call, etc.)
